Sonsu Privacy Policy
Sonsu (“the app”) is a money diary you use without signing in. Everything you write is stored only on your device. The operator (Hyeseung Lee) never receives your records or keeps them on a server.
This policy explains, in plain words, what the app stores and where, and how ads and the “Remove ads (lifetime)” purchase work.
1. What is stored and why
The operator does not collect your personal information. There is no account, sign-in or sync, and the operator runs no servers. The operator has not added any analytics or crash-reporting tools.
The money diary itself works without the internet. The app goes online only to load ads and to check purchases. When ads load, the ad SDK may send some information to Google (see sections 5 and 6), but your diary records are never sent.
What you enter is stored only on your device so the app can work as a money diary.
| Entries | Date, amount, description, memo, category |
|---|---|
| Payment methods | Name, type, billing day, card benefit notes |
| Assets & debts | Name, amount, currency, exchange rate, balance adjustments, monthly net worth history |
| Fixed costs & goals | Fixed cost name, amount, day and memo; monthly saving and spending goals |
| Categories | Default categories and the ones you create |
| App settings | Language, currency, last backup time, the date the app was first opened, the date a full-screen ad was last shown, how many times the ad notice pop-up has been shown, whether “Remove ads (lifetime)” is owned |
| Reminder settings | Whether the daily reminder is on, the reminder time, the date it was first turned on, whether the reminder suggestion and the turn-off suggestion have already been shown |
If your device backup is on (Android Auto Backup and device transfer, or iCloud/device backup on iPhone), app data may be included in your own Google or Apple account backup. Those backups follow Google’s and Apple’s policies and the operator cannot see them. You can turn them off in your device settings.
2. Device permissions and daily reminder
The app does not ask for device permissions such as camera, photos, location or contacts. It asks for notification permission only when you choose to turn on the daily reminder.
| Notifications | Used to show the daily reminder at the time you set. The app asks only when you turn on “Daily reminder” in Settings, or tap “Remind me” on the one-time suggestion shown after you save your third entry. It does not ask when you first open the app. If you decline, the app works the same. |
|---|---|
| Run at startup (Android) | Used to schedule the reminder again after you restart your device or update the app, so it isn’t lost. This permission is granted at install and is not asked for separately. |
| Vibration (Android) | Used to vibrate when a reminder arrives, following your device’s notification settings. Granted at install. |
| Internet | Used only to load ads and to check purchases. It is never used to send your diary records, and the money diary works without it. If you buy “Remove ads (lifetime)”, the app never goes online because of ads. On Android it is granted at install; on iPhone there is no separate permission to ask for. |
How the daily reminder works:
- Reminders are scheduled only on your device. No server or push service is used, so nothing leaves your device because of reminders.
- A reminder shows only the app name and one short preset sentence (for example, “How was your day? A single line is plenty.”). Amounts, descriptions, memos and other records are never included.
- It arrives once a day at the time you set (9 PM to start with). If you have already written something that day, that day’s reminder is skipped. To do this, the app only checks on your device whether there is an entry for today.
- If the reminder has been on for 30 days and you wrote on more than 20 of the last 30 days, the app shows a one-time note saying you can turn it off. This is also worked out only on your device.
- Turn it on or off, or change the time, in Settings → “Daily reminder”. Turning it off removes all scheduled reminders. Turning off notifications for the app in your device settings also stops them.
- Reminder settings are stored only on your device, along with the other settings in the table in section 1.
To save or choose a backup file, it uses your device’s standard file picker and share sheet. The app can only reach the file you pick there.
3. Backup export and import
- Export: all your records, plus your currency and language settings, are saved as one JSON file. You choose where to save it, or which app to send it to from the share sheet (mail, messenger, cloud storage and so on). Once shared, the file follows that app’s or service’s policy.
- The backup file is a plain, unencrypted file that contains your diary as-is. Please keep it somewhere you trust.
- Import: the app checks the file you pick and, after you confirm, replaces the records on your device with its contents. Just in case, it keeps a temporary copy of your current records inside the app during the restore and deletes it once the restore is done.
- The last backup time, ad history, how many times the ad notice pop-up has been shown, “Remove ads (lifetime)” status and reminder settings are not included in backup files.
4. Retention and deletion
Your records stay on your device until you delete them or remove the app. The operator keeps no copy, so there is no retention period on our side.
- Removing the app deletes all records on the device.
- “Erase all data” in Settings clears your records at once without removing the app.
- Backup files you exported, and device or cloud backups, need to be deleted by you.
5. Sharing and processors
Because the operator does not receive your personal information, the operator never passes it on to anyone or hires anyone to process it. Your diary records are never passed to anyone, including ad companies.
However, while ads are shown, the ad SDK inside the app may send the information below directly to Google. Payments are handled by Google Play and the App Store.
Legal review needed: decide whether the information the ad SDK receives counts as provision to a third party or as outsourced processing, then settle the wording of this section.
| Ads | Google LLC (Google AdMob) Advertising ID (device ID), approximate location (based on IP address), app usage and diagnostic information (to show non-personalized ads in the free version) |
|---|---|
| Payments | Google Play, Apple App Store Processing the “Remove ads (lifetime)” payment (under each store’s policy) |
6. Ads and advertising IDs From launch
The free version shows ads through Google AdMob.
- A small banner ad appears between items in the History list.
- A full-screen ad appears once a day on the Stats screen. For the first few days after you install the app, there are no full-screen ads.
- All ads are requested as non-personalized ads only. The app never shows ads based on your interests.
- In regions where consent is required, such as Europe, Google’s consent form appears once.
- To show ads, the ad SDK may send Google your advertising ID (device ID), your approximate location (based on IP address), and app usage and diagnostic information. Your diary records, such as amounts, descriptions and memos, are never sent.
- On iPhone, the app does not ask for permission to track, so the iPhone advertising ID (IDFA) is not used.
- You can reset or delete your Android advertising ID at any time in your device settings: Settings → Privacy (or Google) → Ads
- Loading ads requires an internet connection. If ads can’t load because you are offline, the money diary works the same.
- If you buy “Remove ads (lifetime)”, the ad SDK is never started. No ads are shown, and the app never goes online or sends anything to Google because of ads.
- Information Google receives is handled under Google’s Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
7. “Remove ads (lifetime)” purchase From launch
“Remove ads (lifetime)” is a one-time payment that removes ads. Payments are handled by Google Play and the App Store; the operator never receives or stores payment details such as card numbers.
The app stores only whether you own the purchase on your device. Checking and restoring purchases goes through each store over the internet.
8. Children under 14
The app has no sign-up and the operator collects no personal information. The app is not designed for children under 14. If a child under 14 uses it, please read this policy together with a parent or guardian.
All ads are requested as non-personalized ads only, so no one, including children under 14, is shown personalized ads.
9. Your rights and deleting data
Because all records live on your device, you can view, edit and delete them yourself in the app.
- Delete one entry: swipe it sideways in History and tap “Delete”, or delete it from its detail screen.
- Delete everything: Settings → Data → “Erase all data”. This removes entries, assets and debts, payment methods, fixed costs, goals and the categories you created, and resets categories to the defaults. It also resets the reminder settings (turned off) and removes scheduled reminders. Language and currency settings, the number of times the ad notice pop-up has been shown, and “Remove ads (lifetime)” are kept. This cannot be undone, so please back up first.
- Remove the app: all records on the device are deleted.
- Daily reminder: turn it off in Settings → “Daily reminder”, or turn off notifications for the app in your device settings.
- Advertising ID: the app never requests personalized ads. You can reset or delete your Android advertising ID as described in section 6.
Since the operator does not hold your records, we cannot view or delete them for you. If you have questions, please contact us below.
10. Keeping data safe
- Records are kept only in the app’s private storage and are never sent to an external server.
- Please use a device lock (passcode or biometrics) and keep backup files somewhere you trust.
